. '—+- KETONE NAVALS AT THE GUNS. PREVIOUS EFFORTS ECLIPSED. The final scries of the annual service classfiring by the Pctono Naval Artillery Volunteers ve'stprday morning, resulted in what is probably a world's record for garrison . artillery practice with G-inch breech-loading disappearing guns. The range was -1000 yds., and in •t minutes -10 seconds 12 hits were scored, including one shot fair on the water-line of the imaginary cruiser. Altogether HO shots liavo been fired, and not a single, miss was recorded. Last year out "of 40 rounds fired, 37 hits were scored. The following comparison,' showing the percentage of hits, to rounds fired last year by the various garrison artillery corps in the Dominion, should be of interest :— No. 1 Company (Auckland), 50.25. - No. 2 Company (Dunedin), G3.
