CHINESE GRATITUDE.

AN ELOQUENT EPISTI If. The Rev. A. Don (Moderator of tho Presbyterian Assembly) has received a litter' from members of tho Presbyterian Churches of the Poon and Fa districts of Xwang-tung, China, which the writers have " respectfully submitted to the lightning glance of the directors of the Presbyterian Ghuri!' o f New Zealand." The writers go on to say that " our whole region had for long becj alienated from the true Lord, vigorously servng tho Evil One. Physically, we wandfred bewildered on the wrong way, not knowing where to go; spiritually, in darkness and obsi i :ity, devoid of freedom, we sank mo. a deeply into the Slough of Despond. Dense darkness provailed over the land. The ilhiniii'ftiqn of,the True Light was almost cut olf • hepe in salvation and redemption of boundleKj graco was all but extinguished. "Fortunately, we wero favouitc" by your honourable assembly, whojo lar-rrcching love makes uo distinction of nationality; thus embodying the mind of heaven titove by regarding with compassion men below as equals. So you appointed the Leaders M;Neur and Mawson, tho two lady teachers I'awson and Anderson, with Dr. and Mrs Ings, who' at. various times arrived to labour extensively for the Lord. With intense mci/tal energy and the exhaustion of their stxngth, they have caused renewed opportunities and vastly improved circumstances. l Former churchmembers increasingly manifest their sincerity iu serving tho Lord, while several tens of now Converts'have been added. By theso things we know that your honourable assembly has not in vain attended to.the good government of' tho family of. God and the extensive proclamation of the way of the Lord. Therefore this letter of a few lines has been expressly prepared to record the statement of our sincere thanks, and to wish your honourable assembly daily increase in wisdom and power, with daily abundance of grace and favour, obtaining thus the fulfilment of the Will of God."
