Yesterday-afternoon Mrs. Stott gave a tea at heir charming house in Hobson Street to welcome Mis. and Miss Tolhurst, who returned to Wellington last week". Tlio travellers hiivo been greatly 1 missed during their absence, and their many-friends are delighted to see thoin back. During the afternoon a lady who is gifted with the power of,reading fortune's in three different ways foretold the futuro of many of the guests. Mrs. Stott wore a graceful frock of pink floral taffetas, with - blouse of cream lace, • trimmed' with delicately coloured embroidery. ■ Mrs. Tolliurst was in black voile, trimmed with handsome black lace, and a black arid white hat. Miss Tolhurst wore a : frock-of. pale blub chiffon taffetas, with yoke of cream lace, and lace motifs on her skirt. Her small hat was of white crinoline straw, with •• pale blue ostrich feathor, and.grey tulle; Mrs Findlay, blue and white striped silk with bands of dark blue silk, and navy blue hat; Mrs. David Nathan, cream cloth empire costume, with blouse of Irish crochet lace, and hat with black ostrich feathers; Mrs. Walter Nathan, grey voile, and white hat; Mrs. Hislop, black cloth with white 1 feather boa, and black and wliito hat; Mrs. T. Young, cream silk, 'croam hat with touches of pink ; Mrs. Cecil 'Jones, rich blue chiffon taffetas '-with cream lace yoke and cuffs, and small bla :k hat; Mrs. I l '. M. B. Fisher, deep roso .'oil3, dark green hat trimmed with roses;. Mrst J. Tripe, palo blue serge with bands'of blue silk and touches of brown, :cream liat with rose and-hydrangea; Miss Part-ridge',' a ,'handsonu' gown of pine-patterned chiffon; Mrs'.';Samuels, silver grey frock with.cream lace and touches of green"; Miss Riley, white muslin, : and brown picture hat'with brown feather; Miss Bcauchamp, green shantung silk' with hands and hem of darker green, small hat;,-Mi.-:j Gladys- Nathan, froclc of old rose-coloured voile trimmed witli bands of Oriental embroidery, Tuscan hat with roses and largo black bows; Mrs. Firth, costume of- bright blue cloth, blue tulle hat with blue featlicr; Miss Speed, pream cloth Eton costume, .white hat ; with 'black and white feathers; Miss .Laihg-Mason, fawn-coloured Eton costume with bands of brown velvet, and cream vest, ■brown velvet hat with pink roses; Mrs. Tewsley, grey and white striped' silk, and white hat'with pink orchids; Mrs. Macarthy, effective frock of white silk with black, spots, and trellis pattern of black velvet, the bodice trimmed with lace and coloured embroidery; Miss Somorville, brown .-voile. Among, the other guests presont were Mesdames Tripe, Salmond, Duncan, Ross, Baume, Riley, Russell, Clay, Wylie, and Dean, .and. Misses Holmes, Richmond, Butt, and Bauchope.
A Missionary Meeting. , The members of the New Zealand-Presby-terian Women's Missionary Union , met yesterday morning at St. John's Church' for preparatory discussion of business. Thoro wore about , sixty members present, thirty of. whom are .delegates- from other parts of-tho Dominion.' In the' afternoon the conference was opened by a prayer meeting, hold at . the home of-Mrs. Moore, in Kelburne. This was followed'by'a social gathering of dclogates and friends. ■ Among thoso; present were: Mrs. Shirer (President of the Union), osdames Gib.bs and Kaye (from Christchurch),, Munro (Auckland), Hewitson, White, Kirkland (Dunedin), Miss Glasgow- (Dunedin), Mcsdames Milne, J. Glasgow, - Miller, Rcith, J. Holmes, Dick; Hnstwick, Wavnock, Porter, and Finlay, and Misses Holmes, Crawford, and Glasgow. To-day the Union will hold business iriiqetings, ~and,, on, ...Thursday there will bo a public meeting,, 'which should be interesting, for this Union is connected with mission: work .in India; China,-.and tho New Hebrides, as well as in Now Zealand.
Mrs Peter Drummond, an old anfl,'respected, member, of St. John's Church, is seriously ill. - .
Miss Murcutt arrived yesterday > morning from the South, where she has been conducting a very successful lecturing tour. She is staying with Mrs.-Ostler till Friday, when sho will leave for Sydney.
An engagement recently announced is that of Miss Ivy Tatham, of Homewood, Whareama, to Mr. Laird Meredith, of Warongo.
. Invitations-havo been issued; for. a garden party to be given by His Excellency , the Governor and Lady Plunket to tho Presbyterian General Assembly on Saturday next.
