FOR THE PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND CHILDREN.
A meetingof the committee of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children was held on Friday afternoon at the Society's rooms in Vfillis Street. The members present were: —Mrs. A. R. Atkinson, who presided, Lady Stout, Rev. Mother Mary Aubert, Mesdames Hislop, Hoby, Bracher, Izard, Nathan, Holgate, M'Vicar, Miss E. 13. Brown, and Nurse Mackinnon. The meeting was specially called to welcome Nurse Mackinnon, the expert on humanised milk, who has been working under Dr. Tniby King iii ■Dtinedin, and has been placed at the service of the Society for the purpose of starting the work. for promoting the health of 'parents and children. Nurse Mackinnon will be in.attendance from 1 to 4 p.m., daily (excepting Friday), at the Society's, rooms, 102 Willis Street, whero she will be pleased/to see mothers and anyone interested in the ■feeding'of infants. Resolutions were passed thanking Dr. Truhy King for his kindness in sending Nurse Mackinnon, and also for his donation of £10 10s. to the funds of the -Society; and also thanking Mr. Newton King, of New Plymouth, for a donation of £25. The committee hopes that the workso.auspiciously .begun will not be hampered by the want .of funds, and will be thankful to receive donations from anyone who is interested in the work of saving the babies. According to the statistics the. death rate amongst infants from.the months of December to March, is much higher than in the cooler, months/of the year owing to the difficulty in insuring the freshness of milk and tho ignorance of mothers in giving unsuitable food. .
