MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

The charge sheet at the M agistrate'is Court J on Saturday morning comprised eight minor cases, of which five were first for drunkenness. Two wore convicted and lined ss. in default 24 hours' imprisonment, two convicted and discharged, and one. was remanded until November 9 for curative treatment. Porcival John Osborn was remanded until this morning on a charge of failing to support his illegitimate child. Bail was allowed in self £50, and one surety of £50. . A. young man named Vincent Hollow appeared on a charge of theft of half a packet of cigaretto tobacco from a Chinaman, named I'ook Lee. Defendant pleaded guilty but asked for a chance as ho was under the influence of drink at the time the offence was committed. Sub-Inspector O'Donovan stated that .defendant went into the Chinaman's shop on Friday night and asked for the ■tobacco, and as soon as it was placed before him ho picked it up and ran up the street -with it. His Worship impressed upon the defondant the position his folly had placed him in and warned him to bo more careful in future. A conviction was recorded and defendant was ordered to come- up for sontonco when called upon.
