RIFLE SHOOTING.

To the interested spectator, who had .no deeper interest in the various "shoots which irero being fired off on the Collins and Sommervillc Kinißcs than an idle curiosity as to who would make the highest aggregate, Hie weather iit Trrutliaiii on Saturday was perfect. Hut to the rifleman it was not so. A variety of nniioying causes contributed to a low average in aggregates—fish tails, cross currents, etc. The wind was in a coquettish mood. For part of the time it blew fairly from behind. Then its linnioiir changed, and it wantonly blew from all directions. At 200 yds. range, the best score was .13 points, nut up by Privates Jackson, sen., Homer, and Westwood of thn City Bides. At 500 yds. Rifleman Hodder, of the'Karori Club, scared 3t points, the highest on that range. The. best Bcorc at 700 yds. was Rifleman W. Hemp's, who put up 31 points. Complaint.'; are loud and frequent over the muddy state of the trenches, particularly on the Collins Eange. The boots of some of the markers on the latter range were something to behold. The trench officers for the day were Stall Sergt.-Aiajor Colclongh and Sort. Gilbert, ot the Post and Telegraph Rifles.. Lieut. Collins and Col.-Sorgt. Bolton acted as range ofhecrs. The following is the parade-state:—hn-giheors, 22; City Rifles, 23; Wellington Guards, 32; Kelburno Rifles. 20; Post and 'Jelegraph Rifles, 27; Colli'se Rifles, 18; Zetvlandia Rifles, 26; Highland Rifles, 26; Karori Rifle-Club, 30; Hutt Valley Rifles, 24; Permanent Force liitte Club, 18.
