MANAWATU SHOW.
PREPARING FOR THE SHOW. '.■■■." . A BIG TASK. . '", GOOD PROGRESS MADE. : ' It-is only a matter, of a few rounds of the clock (writes our Manawatu correspondent), whon the whole of the Manawatu' arid surrounding' districts will' bo plunged into a' whirlwind of' excitement iu : conncctioti\with tho great annual metropolitan show. Already tho atmosphere is full of • tho spring-like scont of show, for the word is in! everyone's mouth. The youth, who has ordered his sumnior suit and boater hat, places himself■ in the same street as the farmor from the waybacks, i and speculates as to tho class of weathor to bo moted out l: < The former, liko tho budding beautv from tho bush, viows the prospects from a pleasure point of view, while the farmer, who at this stage of the year can hardly spare:a minute for other things owing to having to fight against overwhelming odds through the unfortunatowoather. affliction, will try to spare a few minutes, for tho show. ■■■ ..■; ! i ■ '.. ' .: : .■' • ■ On the-Crounds. ■ As I write, the grounds are boseiged with an array of enthusiastic workers, ! amongst th« nunibor- being the familiar' faces of many of those ardent supporters- who have' lifted the show by'leaps'and bounds to the high pedestal upon which it now stands. There is, ■ every prospect;of tho present show being the biggest, brightest, and'best ever held m tlio history/of Manawatu. To "cast a glimpse back 'upon last year's groat event, and to view the approaching one in a magnified form, fills one with astonishment at tho colossal collection" of to-day representing in every sphere the cream of tho Island.' : '; \ A Bfg Display. • . "'■■' In horses, cattle, and sheep tho competition will bo. exceptionally lino. The dog .classes will;form.a very attractive—not to say. noisy —feature. Another dominant feature will be the' classes, for public schools, photography, and fine arts... Some of .'these exhibits, will be located in the hall above tho Secretary's office, whilo drawings, photographs, etc., will adorii the walls of the -largo machinery, hall adjacent ( to the main entrance. The work of. organisation has b»on weir carried, out, and evory detail for tho/convenience, and comfort of tho visitir.and exhibitor has been.attended to. The Railway and Tolegra'ph Departments will be heavily taxed to cope with their share in the great event—tho former by reason of tho huge train traffic that is certain to occur, and the latter because tho gathoring of press representatives, with their bundles of copy to be telegraphed all over the country, is likely to bo tho. largest on record in tho Dominion. The Secretary (Mr. Lano) and his staff are giving evidence already of their usual energy and capability. Tho Secretary himself is inundated, with callers, but ho is libver too busy to bo courteous to all or to lend- a helping hand to the pressman..
