OVERCROWDED TRAMCARS.
Sir, —rho Wellington City Council appears ' to be much stirred by tlio proposed Tramway Bill tlic Government; are about to introduce. It is about time the Council waswoko'up. If the Tramway Bill' is passed, and it succeeds in the stoppage of the disgraceful overcrowding of the. cars, the people'of'Welling- ■ I 'ton will be thankful. Cars that are autlibriscd to carry twenty-two passengors- insido ■ arc-often' crowded with thirty and thirty-two, ■ | huddled-togother like sheep in a-truck. The Council have, a by-law which states -that' - " When a carriage contains the- authorised ■ number of passengers, a notico to that effect shall be placed in conspicuous, letters in a •' conspicuous position on tbiv fcarriage.": Another by-law says, " The conductor shall not ' permit any..passenger beyond?the authorised number to enter or mount ,or remain in or < upon any part of a carriage." When' are these by-laws over acted-upon ?■—I I 'am, ctc., : > TIIORNDON. October 19, 190". , . ' ; . !
