' HOW BUSINESS IS PROGRESSING. } In tho course of, a meeting of the.Taranaki Executive of tiie N.Z. Farmers' Union, Mr. Davidson expressed a desire that members of the executive, who were also directors of the Farmers. Mutual. Fire Insurance , Association, should 'occasionally report on the progress of. that association. He also thought the membership should bo confined to numbers of the I armors' Union who; brought it into existence' ■ ■ .■■ i. -i : ,-. -i Mr. E. Maxwell (a director of the associar tion and> chairman of the provincial union branch) replied that the directors wore of opinion that it ought to be confined to members of the union, but not yet, for sufficient reasons. ' The Mutual rate at present was'-in lexcess of that of the Associated Companies,iand the' majority of idirectors held that it would be'better to stick 'to t present rates and go on safe lines. There had so far been no fires. The average policy amounted to about £250, arid they were now taking the whole of their own risks.' The amount of insurance in hand was £186,000, and the ■ cash to the credit of the Association amounted to ; £1049 in fixed deposit and current account, besides the premium notes/ • ' : ' " : '
