BOXING.
j A meeting of tho management committee' of the Wellington Boxing Association was hold on Friday, Mr. R. W. Jl'Villy in tho chair. It was reported that T. Hanley, of Sydney, and James Godfrey, of Auckland, had signed the agreement in connection with the contest between thorn at Wellington on Novomber 25, for tho featherweight professional championship of the Dominion. The committee decided to place on tho programme as a new departure a wrestling bout between first-class exponents. ': It was resolved to inform Captain Horniman (manager of tho N.S.AV. amateur boxing team, which attended tho Australian championships) that tho New Zealand Boxing Club and the Wellington Association had inquired into, and wore satisfied with, the bona fides of W. Elliott, of Tiiuaru, who secured the featherweight championship. Tho Manawatu Boxing Association wrote that it purposed holding a tournament on October 30 and 31, during tho currency of the A. and P. Show. The Chairman reported that the thanks of the Association had been tendered to tho inspector of police at Napier for taking prompt action against the promoter of a boxing exhibition for which no permit had boon issued. Tho prosecution would, it was hoped, act as a deterrent.
