: _$ OPERA HOUSE. "A Beautiful Fiend," the highly-exciting drama being played by Miss Maud Hildyard and Company at the Opera Houso,' is finding more popular favour as tho season advances. On Saturday ovening there was a very large audieuco, that manifested its approval of tho sonsational Russian story in no uncertain manner. Tho mounting and dresses are unusually good, and tho acting all round is aboyo tho avorago. The drama will bo played until further notice LECTURE BY MISS ACKERMANN. Yesterday afternoon, in tho concert chamber of tho Town Hall, Miss Jessie Ackonnaun delivered an interesting lecture, under tho auspices of tho Y.W.C.A., on her recent visit to. the Holy Land. Her Excellency Lady Pluuket presided. Miss Ackormann gavo a graphic account of her visit to Damascus, her rido to Jerusalem, and her visits to ;uany places of sacred interest. It was, sho said, the groat desiro of millions of Christians in all parts of Christendom to spend an Eastc in the Holy City, and for weeks boforo pilgrims by tho thousaud journeyed to Jorusalom horn Russia, Qreeco, and from Western Europe Tho lecturer dosoribed very vividly the wonderful sceno'that takes phico in the Church of tho Holy Sopulchro on tho coii.ing of Easter Day. In closing, sho oxprossed her pleasure at speaking under tho auspices of tho Y.W.C.A., an organisation which had won for itself a groat respect and sympathy by reason of the practical work it did to hc'p girls in all parts of the world. On the motion of Mrs. Hislop a vote of /thanks was given Her Excellency and Miss Ackennann.
