The "creep" at Newcastle is still working. Four to five shocks were felt to-day, accompanied by loud-reports. ' This caused the majority of the rifts in the earth's .surface to open, out .considerably. Most of the buildings damaged yesterday sustained further damage to-day. The obelisk reservoir is quite the water having leaked underground. Sydney, October 18. ■ Reports\ from Newcastle received prior to the above,'state that altogether an area of between 40. and, 50 acres has been affected by the "creep," though in only a portion is the subsidence really serious. There are about' 400 houses within the area. |; Amongst the• premises /damaged are the Congregational' and Catholic. Churches, the Methodist Mission Hall, and' the palatial, residence of Mr. A. F. Hall, adjoining Mr. J. R. AVood's residence •• "• ■ Last night the reservoir on. "The .Sill," with a holding capacity of 200,000 gallons, bogari; leaking into, tho old workings below. | The main.reservoir, however, is intact. The oity engineer reported : last night that ho anticipated no danger. - Tho estimates of the damage are very wide, ranging from £40,000 to £100,000. ■ ' The residents of some of the damaged houses had rather an exciting esporionce. No one was injured. . ,
