DOMESTIC HINTS.

Fuller's oarth is an excellent cleanser for straw hats.' _ It should be well brushed into tho straw with a stiff brush, and it will be found that it neither yellows the straw nor rots it, as so many chemicals do. For dusting carvcd furniture a painter's, brush of moderately stiff bristles is always bettor than a feathor duster, which is too soft to remove the dust satisfactorily. An old silk handkercliiof is always best for dusting highly polished surfaces. Brass articles may always be cleaned by using salt and vinegar well mixed. Rub this mixturo on tho brass with a flannel cloth, then wash quickly with warm water and dry. Afterwards polish with a soft leather. After sweeping a room, if a piece of cheesocloth is wrung out in cold water and laid on the floor and left for a little timo, it will bn 'found most useful in catching all tho dnst still floating in the air. Tho cloth should then bo taken up and washed ready for tho next swooping. This is the means of saving the furniture from a good deal of dust, which, would otherwise settle on it. A tested method of cleaning knife handles is to dip them in a solution of alum and water and leave them in it for two or three hours, then wash them and wipe them dry. Polish the blndes with knifo powder, using a pncl wot with alcohol. This will not stain tho ivory.
