' About midnight the police received a telephone message asking them to send an ambulanco to the office of the tramway clcc-. trical engineer. Though the office was lighted, they received no response to their knocking., On entering they found Andrew ' Wilkes, employed by the Tramway Company as an electrical engineer, dead, reclining in his chair, with a bullet, through his head. Thero was a revolver on the Hoot. Wilkea was a young man, and had been in the company's omploy five months. Ho had been' suffering from influenza in a severe form.At the inquest this afternoon it was stated • that deceased's' wifo had returned to England about two months ago. Their domestic relations were'-not happy. Tho sergeant of police stated that a telephone mossago was rccoivcd, presumably from deceased, to sendan ambulanco round about 1 o'clock,'as something was happening at tho moment of tolepHoning. A verdict tliat deceased had shot himself while temporarily deranged was returned. BAPTIST UNION. Auckland, Octobor 16. The Baptist Conferonco, with a view to celebrating the silver jubilee of tho Union, resolved to raise not less than £1000 for the purpose of establishing an annuity fund for aged and infirm ministers. .
