Messrs. G. Godber (chairman) R. C. Kirk, M. Murdoch, G. Frost, J. P._ Luke, and It. Bould were present at a meeting' of tho-Wel-lington District Hospital Board held, yesterday morning! V. The matron of the Otaki Sanatorium (Mrs. 'li. M.' Scely) reportod that .there.'arci at sent sovon female and-18 male . patients, inthe institution. All tho gardens made by, the patients had been'completely destroyed by, wi. sheep and lambs, and it was useloss to plant anything, as the sheep could always got through the fences. Th'oro'wcre 66 ewes with lambs and 0 head of cattle, of-Mr. M'Beath's, 'grazing 011 the land, which was in a poor condition, as it was overstocked: : The ; institu-. tion required grazing'for Jive: or sixcows,a ; horse, and also land to-provide'for winter feod f&r its own .stock, but under the present stale of things that was impossible.- The matron reported,' further,:that some 'difficulty had been experienced through the drains becoming blocked, and Mr. Murdoch', who had visited the Sanatorium; stated that.tlio trou-' bio partly arose through the' storm .water being led into tho same pipe as'the seworagoi' Tho matter was considered'one that'retired'j immediate 'attention, and on the motion of ' Mr. J. P. Luk'o, it wn^.'resolved'that themembers of the BoarcJ should visit'tlie Sana-' torium on Saturday iu compaiiy with,the architect and engineer. . . In the matter of the overstocking of tho land mentioned, it was decided to negotiate for tho determination of Mr. M'Beath's graj> ing lease, as the land was needed for the use. of , the institution'. '. The matron also reported that during September 11 patients were admitted and 11 were.' discharged. 0110 patient had died, and there : wore at' present' eight-.males and tlirco fe-,' males under treatment.. ..There,'had',been, three operations under anaesthetics during tho month. Rouna Tauna had" died from heart disease ou September 3. 'l'lie wards had be,on busy all tho mouth, and all had been working; satisfactorily. Accounts amounting to £2,250 were passed for payment.
