Air explosion at the Dupont Blasting Powder Mills, Fontanet, Indiana, was followed by two explosions in neighbouring mills, which wrecked every building in tho town, and 'killed or injured many workmen. Niriety minutes later tho heat of the burning mills caused an explosion of 10,000 kegs of powder stored in a magazino which was situated in a hollow several hundred yards away. This explosion injured many more people. A freight train on a' siding near the magazine caught fire. Tho heat rendered it impossible to rescue many, who wore buried in tho debris of the magazino. Eightoen mangled bodies aro in the morgue awaiting: identification'. ■ The list of killed, injured, and homeless is:— . : Killed 40 Injured 600 Homeless 1200 Two churches 'and several school buildings were destioyed. A school at Fontanet collapsed, injuring 50 out of 200 children. Another, school, two miles away, also fell, burying the teacher and ninety pupils.
