SWIFTS . SWIMMING CLUB. •Tho annual meeting of , tho ' Swifts. Swimming Club was held in'. Batkiri's llooms on Tuesday evening,., .Mr;. ,E. : J. Fleming;-occupying tho- chair. Tho report congratulated members on. the prosperity and sound • position of the club. . The membership roll showed 180: seniors,' over 200, juniors, and 1 11 la.dies.; The' opening- of the Club's ranks free.: of'.subscription''to school-; boys under 1G yeaTs of age lias,' a?cording to the Committee, stimulated swimming among the " younger members, 'and many promising young, swimmers have developed. l Two Wellington Provincial- Championships,. 100 'and 220. yards, were competed for during. the. season; The Club-was, represented by S.: W. Kean in tlio. 100 yds. (who -met .'with no success), and, by B. C. rroyberg, F. Wilton,, and, S. W. Keari in the 220 yds., which .was .won by B. C. Froybcr'g, ! Kean . coming'third. T.VChurchward- and A;Stevenson; Honorary Auditor, Mr. F. Conrtenay; Delegate's to Wellington Centre, N.Z.A.S.A., Messrs. W; T; Churchward' and ; Charles ■ Moore; ■ Honorary Secretary, pro tern.,' Mi. -W. Skegg. Considerable diseussion took place regarding tlie expenditure of a sum of money, recently received by the Centre for the purpose of promoting the Humane Branch. The Secretary stated that the Centre was getting into touch with the Eoyal Life Saving Society, and had ordered'a large number, of posters and;handbooks issued by that Society. One member suggested that* the: Centre- should..provide a shield, for life : saving competitions, while an-: -.otherj member proposed tho holding, of 'races; with' clothes. on/. arid for swimming.!on the; back. T!»e Club's delegates were urged to .push the Humane work actively, and. to see that the money was spent. It'was argued Hint' many a good swimmer would - bo unable to ; effect a rescue.owing, to;lack of knowledge of the' scientific-w)»y.
