CIVIL SERVICE SPORTS CLUB.
FIRST ANNUAL MEETING. The first annual meeting of the Civil Service Amateur Sports Club was held in Armit's Rooms, Lambton Quay, on Thursday night. Mr. E. A. Dawsou presided, and there was a fair attendance of members. ANNUAL REPORT. ' The annual report of the club congratulated members on a .successful year. Reference was made to the death of the popular president of tho club, Mr. : Wm. Gray, whoso demise is deeply regretted by members. A word of thanks'is tendered to the vice-presidents, Messrs. T. H. Hamer, G. A. Pearson, and M. Marks, for trophies, and to Mr. R. W. M'Villey for valuable, assistance at the club's meetings. During -the year the club had the misfortune to lose two good members—Mr. R. B. Reynolds (captain),- transferred to. Dunedin, and Mr. C. W. Turvey (vice-captain), also transferred to Dunedin. ■ ... ■ Tho evening meetings held during the season were very popular, and well attended, and it' is anticipated that they will be equally successful during the
coming season. ' The - Civil Service tournament held at Christchurch was highly successful, the club taking second place in the championship. / The combined sports meeting, held in conjunction with the Port Nicholson Amateur Athletic Club, on February 9, was a huge success, and as a result the club netted over .£lO. ,Tbe total amount standing to the credit of the club is JCI3 3s. 7d., of whi<;h ,£lO 2s. 4d. represents one-half of the credit balance on tho combined meeting in February, and .£.l Is. 3d. the balanco on the club's operations. The gross 1 receipts wero JE2II 95., and the oxpendituro .£lB2 155., leaving a gross credit balance on the results of the combined meeting of .£2B 14s. ■ During tho season trophies and prizes amounting in value to JGB7 15s. were distributed.
Tho report and balance-sheet were adopted! ELECTION OF OFFICERS. : The election of officers for tho ensuing year resulted as follows s—Patron, Sir .T. G. Ward, K.C.M.G.; President, Mr. R. W. M'Villey; Vice-Presidents, Messrs. D. Robertson, F. Waldegrave, T. H. Hamer, M. Marks, and J. EmanSmith; Hon. Secretary, Mr. A. T. Parkes; Hon. Treasurer, Mr.- H. Esam (re-elected); Hon. Auditors, Messrs. A. Anderson and G. S. Nicoll (re-elected); Ilandieapper, Mr. P. A. M'Coll (reelected) ; Management Committee, Messrs. E. A. Dawson, P. J. M'Govern, S. G. Turner, L. A. B. Teutonberg/ —. Campbell, and H. Tanner; Delegates to the N.Z. Amateur Athletic Association, Messrs. E. A. Dawson, W. P. Carter, and L. A. B. Tcutenberg. The appointments of captain and vice-captain were referred to tho incoming committee. . GENERAL. In acknowledgment of his excellent services to the club, the retiring secretary, Mr. W. P. Carter, was voted a complimentary honorarium of three guineas. It was decided to hold the first evening meeting on October 30, tho programme of events to bo as follows 75yds. Club Maiden, 440 yds Open, and the Club Mile. 'I The annual Civil Service sports cli.imnionship meeting will be held at Wellington on November 30. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the Port Nicholson A.A.C. for their cooperation in connection with the combined sports meeting in February last, and a hope was expressed that this good fellowship would continue. ' A vote of thanks was also passed to the outgoing committee, tho Press, and the chairman.. The proceedings, which were of a very unanimous nature, then terminated.
