The first of the New York to New Zealand direct steamers, run under the auspices of the Fedcrnl-Honlder-Shiro Line, is the Lord Stanley, which left New York on Seotembcr 20, and is duo hero on October 28. She will be followed by the New Orleans, leaving New York Oh October 30 for Auckland direct. , The Kazembe left Auckland yesterday for Vancouver, via Honolulu. There wcro 3500 bales of hemp and 400 sacks of cocksfoot seed included in the cargo for Vancouver. Mr. H. O. Ellis, late purser of tho. Aparima and Waihora, bos been appointed to a shore position •on the Christchurch staff of the Union Company, and his place has been filled by Mr. Houghton, late purser of the naupiri. ' ■ Tho Navua arrived yesterday en route to Auckland, where she will resume her running in the Islands trade. Cantoiu M'Donald, late of the Waikare,. will take her to Auckland, and has with him the following officers:—Mr. Dydson (late Poherua), chief; Mr. SeweU'(late second officer of the Talune), second; and Mr. Beswick (late third officer of tho Mapourika) is third officer. The coastal steamer Defender left Karamea yesterday for Wellington with a full cargo of timber. The Mimiro left Auckland last night, and should arrive here on Thursday, and bo in readiness to commence'discharging on Friday morning. A steamer arrived in the stream at 8 o'clock last night from the eastward, but her name was not known. The Corinna was not expected to get away until daylight to-day owing to the delay in discharging a shipment of butter here. Tho Navua's departure for Auckland Ims been postponed until Thursday, as she has yet to eoal at this port. The s.s. Manuka from Sydney, d.ue this morning, will commence discharging at midnight.
