CONSUMPTIVE IMMIGRANTS.
LAXITY OF EXAMINATION ALLEGED. Auckland, October 8. It was stated at a meeting of tho Charitable Aid .Board that an immigrant suffering from tuberculosis, who arrived hero a few mouths ago, had died and left his widow and six children on the hands of the Board. Tho Chairman said that tho exann-' nation before the immigrants left England and after arrival here mast be lax. V.' • Another-; member stated that there wore, several cases.in which new arrivals,, /after, having been cared for by their frion*ds for a short time, had become a charge upon the Board. '■ It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of tho Health Department. /• Answering strictures on tho Health Department as to alleged laxity in tho New Zealand system is more complete and thorough than in any part of the world.
