Mr. John Rodmond, Chairman of vlw Nationalist Parliamentary' Party;' speaking at Portumna, County Galway, declared that while tho Nationalists wore working to obtain redress of material grievances', tho main abiding and inspiring motivo lor seeking .these reforms was to strengthen their arm so fea to win Homo Rule, ■In, its striving for Home Rule along ' the constitutional lines of parliamentary .representation, the .Nationalist party has to contend with the propaganda of Sinn Join,-which maintains that thero should -■ bo no Irish party at Westminster, and that-Irishmen should work out their own salvation by means, inter alia, of hn informal administration in Ireland. Mr. . Bedmond recently wrote to the Wexford Corporation:—" The absurd i pretence that, the. best way of forwarding the National cause is to withdraw the National representatives from Parliament—that is to-say, to disfranchise Ireland, to throw : away, tho weapon by the. use of which all' the -victories, of tho past 25 years have.bpen won for the freedom and prosperity of tjhe peoplej to leave all outBtandirig Irish, questions (not only Home ■Riile, but. education; finance, and land roform) to the exclusive managements of the Ulster Unionists—this policy has been, condemned and repudiated in unmistakable fashion by Ireland. Its advocates have not dared to take the verr diet of the people in any part of Ireland! In Kilkenny and in Wicklow Sinn.Fein was not heard of in the recent elections. In South Longford,- rendered vacant by - the lamented illness of that bravo' and loyal member of the party, Mr. Blake, Biin-Pein'won't show its face."
