MEETING OF WELLINGTON CENTRE. / The ordinary meeting of the Now Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, bold ou Friday evening, was attended by Mr. K. R r . M'Villy, vice-president (in tlio chair), and Messrs. 1 W. Coffey, XI. MclCeoivn, J. W. Ilccnan, W. It. l'ollock, .1. M. Hogbcn, J. M. Pollock, and A. Davies (secretary):' The secretary of the Wellington Harriers requested the Centre to take over the control af the annual teams' road race. The request-was necessitated, it was. stated, by the fact Hint the Harriers could not finance the event.—.Agreed to. Consideration of' two motions dealing' with voting by mail 'in connection with business before tho Amateur Athlctic Union of Australasia was deferred. On tho motion of Mr Coffey, it was agreed that a deputation,' consisting of Messrs. M'Villv,. ,1. I|. Pollock, Davies and the mover, wait on the Wellington Cricket' Association "with reference to. the use of tho Basin Reserve by athletes during the coming season. . The N'.Z.A. A. Association notified that several alterations in its constitution had recently been. made,. In futurMlie Council would be composed of nine members elected on a vote of all' the Centres instead of "three' representativeselccted by each Centre. • The -meeting decided to nominate the .following for positions on the Council Messrs J. E. Green, E. Nordo'n,-. D.. Hamber, W. G. Atack, C. T. Aschman,,.Q. Copper, J. Olliver, H. S. Butchelor, and J.' "E. Grierson. " ,J With reference to..the delay on the part of the. N.Z.A.A. Council in recognising tiie record .'tor a niile. walk established by 11. Kerr at 1 the New Year meeting at Wellington, Mr. J. H. Pollock moved as follows"That the Council be advised that Kerr's walking on the date in question, was passed by both judges and the referee .and .that,afterwards the course was measured and all other formalities'""necessary"under the rules were rigidly complied with. The Centre is, therefore,'greatly disappointed at the • delay that" has occnrli'd' in awarding Kerr the record;- and- 'urges the Council to take tho matter. into early consideration and seo.that justice is done to.a deserving and conscientious athlete. The fact of Kerr b6ing disqualified on a subsequent occasion, when lie was not walking in his natural gait, but in a style adopted with an honest .desire to copy what was shown to him,'doe's not bear on the subject,.and should .not bp. allowed to prejudice tho issiic of the certificate of record.The motion "was .seconded by Mr. Coffey. As an amendment, Mr. W. 11. Pollock . moved, .and Mr Davies seconded,' that tho words "disappointed that the Council has deferred the consideration, of...recognising Kerr's, performance" be substituted for "disappointed at tho delay, that has occurred." The amendment was rejected and the motion carried.
