NEW ZEALAND EUGBY UNION. A meeting of'the Management Committee of the New Zealand Kagby Union was held on Thursday. There were present: Messrs. Geo. Dixon (in the chair), E. Wylie,' I. Hyains, 3. N. Laughton, N.V'Galbraiih, and J. D. Avery, Secretary. ~ ' The Auckland Union wrote giving the ; names of the players belonging to their Union who joined the professional team. -.It was decided to' declare the players mentioned professionals, and to disqualify them. ,-It was resolved to send ten copies of the by-laws to each affiliated union. ■ 'An appeal-from,the Melrose Club, forwarded through the Wellington Union, asking for a definition of a "professional,"- was referred to the Appeal ■ Board. The Hawkc's Bay Union wrote forwarding an account for '.££s 10s., expenses in connection with the Ranfurly Shield match against Auckland. It was resolved to hold over consideration of tho question, but io inform the Union . that expenses! could only be allowed for 17 men and the manager, and'that Hie shield regulations do not admit of tho ' ' payment of board. . . The sub-committee set .up to go.into the question of the Duller Union's expenses in reference to the challenge for the Ranfurly. Shield, reported., as follows:—"It appears to us that' as the N.Z. Union gave their sanction to the .match clearly on the fact that' it-meant au extension of the tour after playing at Nelson and Blenheim, tho Special Challenge Match should only incur the transit "expenses of the Duller Rugby Union after fulfilling that obligation. To our minds, the position, on June 7, tho date of our approval, was. that the Duller Union was to travel and piny matches at Nelson and Blenheim,'which meant that they were liable for all costs in taking the team from Westport to '■13ior.l:cim.'via Nclso'i. i:i the nam? manner to lii these conclusion we arc of opinion that we should only, ailow the steamer faro from Nelson to Onchunga and return to Xelson—i&l per head for the manager and 17 men, which was a sufficient number of players for the Auckland match, in addition to railway faro 'claimed between Onchunga and Auckland. If Wnugaiiui had been included' in the original prop-ammo we think the Duller Union would have been entitled to expenses as already decided, but as the Duller.Rugby Union have evidently been under a misapprehension •as to the procedure, we mißlit let'them .understand that we have waived that." A meeting' of tlie. Management Cbm- : inittec of the, Wellington Football ,\sr.ocintiat\ was'held on Wednesday, Mr. ■ H. Waters presiding. A letter was received from the Ramblers Club; offering to assist in carrying out the proposed bazaar for tho purpose of .raising funds for the Association.- The letter also stated that the Ramblers Ladies' Hockey Club was prepared to assist. The secretary of the Palnic-rston Association wrote intimating that a team could not b'.' got together to meet the .Wellington Juniors. The writer pointed out ti»t although he had dono his
utmost during tho past seven years, tho game did not seem to progress in Palmerston. They were only able to get one team together, and to secure about five matches each season, and these by travelling.- It was resolved to order twelve balls for tho boys', competition, in readiness for next season, and also to place an order for 100 referee's charts. The Permanent and Casual staffs of the Harbour Board were granted permission to. play a match on Saturday next. Other matchesset down for Saturday are:—Fourth Class—Swifts v.
