EXTENSION TO THE WESTWARD.

A few wooks ago a largoly-signed petition''■was presonted to tho Government by the residents of> that portion of tho Karori Borough on tho city side,of Baker's Hill and the reservoir, praying to bo included in tho city of Wellington: A protest was lodged against sucli alteration in the boundaries hy the Karori Borough Council, whose policy nas been opposed to any depletion of its rateable area. This week's '"Gazette" states that " such. objection, has been duly considered, antl.it is doomed expedient to make the. alteration prayed for in tho petition.'.' The scheemje of tho notice, which describes: precisely the new boundaries of,'. Wellington and Karon, is as follows:—

"All that area in the Wellington Land District situated in Blocks-VI and X.'Vbrt Nicholson Survey District. 'Bounded by a lino commencing at the intersection of the south-eflstern sido of the Karori ' Road by the eastern boundary-line' of the Original Section No. 29 'in Mock VI ftfortsiiid; UiMice south,-wcsterly ajlong the south-eastern side of the snid Karori Road to a point where it is irvteisccted by the eastern side of' Bttker's Hill Road; thence along the eastern and sonthorn side of the said Bnker's Hill Road over the top of ,tfib bhnel to. the junction of tho said Baker's Hill. Bokd iiid Moana Road; thonce westerly along-tho 'northern boimdary-linc of- .Knjghfs farm to the Kaiffarra Stream; thence sonOiorlT alqntl thet stream. to tho northern ' Ixiundary of -'■ the waterworße

reserve; thonec north-westerly uloiigtho boundary of the said waterworks reserve to its northern-most coiner; thence generally south-westerly nlonjr tho western boundary of the said waterworks reserve to the southern boundary of the' Boroutfh of Karori, as described in the "New Zealand Qazette," No. f>s, of September 10, 1891; thence south-easterly along tlin southern boundary of the said Borough of Karori to its south-eastern corner; and thence generally northerly along the eastern boundary of the said Borough of Karori to the place of commencement."
