Tho Hawke's Bay Jockey Club had . fino weatlicr to-day for tho opening day of their Spring 1 Meeting. A strong wind, however, was blowing to tho lunch hour when it died down'. PAHIATUA JOCKEY CLUB. (From Our Own. Correspondent.) Paiiiatua, October 2. The annual meeting of the Pahiatua Jockey Club was held at.the Commercial Hotel last night. Recommendations from the Programme Committee were adopted, l tho stakes being increased to ,£llOO, and tho following alterations being made on last year's, programme ': —In the Trial Hack Pktci first day, tho distance was altered .from six to seven furlongs. In the Racing Club Handicap, second day, the' stakes were raised to ,£95 for the first horse, .£ls for the second, and <£5 for the third. Tho ■ acceptance ..feo was also reduced to 30s. Tho Grand Stand Welter Handicap distance was altered to one mile,, -and. the stakes made ,£SO for the first :"iorse. JJ7 for the second, and «£S btn ■ the'third. The acceptance fee was also: jreduced to 30s.' Nominations for all: ievents closd-on'January.6. The weights will be declared on January 13. Tho acceptances for tho first day close of January 17.
