Lyno (Federal Treasurer) i announced in tho Houso of Representatives tho Government scheme for giving effect to tho new Protection principle. Tho. chief-points are: 1 (1.) An Excise, Board, to be " advised by assessors, will be created. All factorios arc to be . registered, and officials are to havo full power of inspection, .access to wages sheets, and other : details. (2<) All goods bearing tho Commonwealth trade-mark will 'be oxempt. • - (3.) The Excise Board will havo power in certain cases to recommend that duties should be lowered or abolished. ; In tho House, Mr. G. H. Reid announced that the Opposition, whilo strenuously endeavouring to carry out tho Freetrade principlo as far as possible, would assist those'who hold Jnore moderate views than Ministers in 'making the duties less extravalgant.
