The Dairy School.
LEVIN THE PROBABLE SITE.
It is understood that the site of tho new Dairy School and Experimental College is to be at Levin. This mattor has been under consideration for the past year or two. 'The claims of Palmerston North; Hawera, and Patea have been in turn urged, but, though no official declaration has been made, thoro seems: little doubt that Levin has been finally selected. Probably nothing will bo done in the mattor beforo Mr. Singleton, dairy expert, who is now visiting Canada and collecting information regarding similar institutions, returns to the Dominion. Tho School or Colloge will fulfil an important function. Its exact nature, however, has yet to be defined. Instruction in dairy work will bo imparted to sons of farmers and farmers themselves, but it is also likely that there will be special provision for officers of the Department to carry out investigations, analyses, and experiments. Some time ago, Mr. J. A. Kinselia declared that only by protracted experiments in the search for deleterious bacteria could the Dominion hope to raise the quality of its butter and chccso to a higher status. This point, however, has yet to bo rjoiutlud.
