She is a wholesome-looking carrier of 3DOO tons gross, and is owned by the Olyde 'Snipping Company, of Glasgow. She was built five years ago, and this is her first visit to New Zealand. Captain E. Robertson is in command, and has with him the following oflieers: Chief, Mr. I". Wilson; second, Mr. W. J. M'Granalian; third, ill'. It. B. Henry. The total crow is forty-five, the dock hands being Malayß, the firemen East India natives, and the stewards and cooks' Chinese. Tl;c only white men on the vessel arc the officers, who speak highly of the crew. Very heavy weather was encountered between the meridian of the Cape of Good Hope and the Australian coast, decks being flooded nearly, all the way across. No damage worth mentioning,. however, was sustained by the ship. Only one stoppage—at St. Vincent, Capo Verde Islands—was made during the long trip of 12,800 milts from New "York to Melbourne; The trip from Sydney to -Auckland was made in perfcct weather, but the voyage from Auckland to Wellington was attended with heavy seas and boisterous weather generally. The Kish lias been away from England for about eighteen months. She was returning, when the present charter was arranged for Australian and New Zcaland-'ports. Previous to entering the' Australian trade, the Kish was trading to Colombo, Singapore, and ports in Japan, generally returning with a cargo of sugar from Java for Nev,' York.
