Reufcer reports that General Drutlo, who commands tho French forces in Morocco, has intimated that tho Shawai tribes must pay an indemnity of £8000. • Tho delegates who brought tho tribes' ofjcr to surrender undertook to deliver those guilty of the attack upon Europeans on July 13.
Mulai Eafid, the Sultan's halfbrother (who claims the Sultanate, or, at least, a division of power with the present Sultan), has sent Mulai Rahad with 6000 men and 50 field-pieces to tho Shawai district.
It is understood at, .Casablanca that his orders are to restrain or per.suade tho Shawais to reserve their strength for a fight against. the Sultan. If he is unable to restrain thsm ho will then join forced with the Shawais against the 'French.
