CROMWELL SCHOOL.
The usual monthly meeting of the above Committee took place at the School-house on Bth instant, there being present Messrs Marsh (chair), Preshaw, Scott, Pretsch, Jolly, and Murrell (hon. Secretary). Minutes of previous meeting were read and con firmed.
A letter was submitted from the Education Board suggesting the advisability of levying an assessment on property for educational purposes.
After some discussion, it was proposed by Mr Jolly, seconded by Mi* Preshaw, and carried—That, in the opininion of this Committee, it is not desirable that an assessment should be levied for school purposes. The subject of children being sent to school by parents who did not pay the fees was then dealt with at some length, and it was resolved that the parents be visited by Messrs Jolly and Scott. If it were found they were unable to pay, the children to be enrolled as "poor scholars." The sum of £l2 was passed for payment to Mr Todd.
A sub-committee appointed at last meeting were empowered to call for tonders for the erection of a wall around the school ground so far as funds would permit.
The other business transacted was of a routine character.
"You see, dearest," said the enraptured Edwin, a fellow cannot exist without his heart ; and as you have got mine, of course I cannot exist without you." "Oh, you absurd creature !" said the delighted Angelina:
"Tis strange," muttered a young man as he staggered home from a supper party, "how ovil communications corrupt good manners. I've been surrounded by tumblers all. the evening, and now I'm a tumbler myself."
