ROCKY POINT FERRY.
To the Editor of the Cromwell Argus. Sir, —Recently the Government have done a good service to travellers and to the by making arrangements to have the cbarges at the ferries on the Queenstown road lessened; and they deserve every credit for th>?ir action except the credit of promptitude ; the thing should have been done long ago. But there are other ferries, besides those mentioned, regarding which the same arrangement might be carried out, and I beg to bring under your notice the injury done to the district by the excessive rate of charges at the punt at Rocky Point. It is hardly to be understood why either the Cromwell Corporation or the Bendigo Gully residents have not made an effort to secure a reduction ere this. The charges are much higher than at the Queenstown road ferries, and must be a heavy tax upon supplies which may be taken from here to Bendigo, or vice ivrsa. And it certainly is not going too far to say that the high charges have a deterrent effect upon the taking up of the land at Hawea Flat. We have a district representative who might be able to do something in this matter if his attion were directed to it. Or, if the punt proprietary intend to maintain the present charges, surely an effort might be made to open up the road to Bendigo by Quartz Reef Point. Hoping you will give this insertion, I am, &c, Traveller. November 13, 1874.
