M'Morran : adjourned for one month, pending survey.—Williams and Edwards, the survey of their application having been completed, now applied for a hearing, but notification of survey not having been forwarded to the Warden, hearing was adjourned for one week.

At the Dunedin Resident Magistrate's Court, on Monday last, the 7th instant, a swellish-looking fellow, named Sydney George Anderson, was charged with ohtaining money under false pretences. He had represented that he had between £3OOO and £4OOO in the Bank of Australasia, and produced a forged receipt at the Criterion Hotel, where he put up, purporting that he had purchased the Star and Garter Hotel, Oamaru, for £3400. It was proved that he had carried on a series of frauds, letting in a number of persons by a most ingenious method. Among his other misdeeds, he succeeded in victimising one of the gentlemen connected with the Telegraph office to the extent of £9, by some transaction asi to the transmission of a cablegram to England, ordering the saleof some thousand pounds' worth of Consols. He is a late arrival. The whole of the cases were adjourned. The <j»ae caused a deal of .iaterest.
