Cromwell, 30th August, 1873. To Brother Thomas Mathieson. Dear Sir aud Brother,—lf I could put into one word the emotion and intense gratification, not unaccompanied by surprise, I experienced on the receipt of your kind letter, with its enclosure, it would to me be no small source of pleasure.

It must to every member of our noble Order be a subject of congratulation to know that his or her services, no matter how small, are appreciated, and that they secure the esteem of those whose friendship and acquaintance tend to smooth the troubled path of life, and impart courage and hope to persevere in the Temperance cause.

Permit me to reciprocate the kind expressions respecting myself, and to indulge in the hope that those bonds of brotherhood which were cemented around your common altar will never be severed, but that as time (whose rapid course none can stay) rolls on, so will you individually and collectively deem the touryou joined the Golden Arrow Lodge as one tolled with the brightest and happiest of your

\ prize th§ gift, and will ever cherish it as a memento of the Lodge, which I doubt not will became one of the strongest of the Order in the Utajp goldhelds. T\ allusion to the office T hold induces me to urgei Ypon the members the necessity of attending tOtheir Lodge duties, as there is nothing to preven any of you from attaining a similar, if not superior, position; and from my short residence amongst you, I can sincerely testify that many ofc your members possess the requisite mental ai\j. moral qualities. . Y ?. u w jV be good enough to lay this communication be-ore the Lodge, and if at any time I can be of s&vice by assisting them in any dimcultyor kmfcty question, it will be theirs only to command, mme to obey Present imkind regards to the Sisters and adorn the Ten^ rance cause, and reclaim many it! I T S °??- 1 »«• Dear Sir and Brother; yours fraternally in Faith,; Hope, and Charity, Aifrsd Pbach, DsD.P.G.W.C.T.
