Thursday, June 11. PURCHASE OP RESIDENCE AREAS ON GOLDFIELDS. Mr G. F. C. Browne moved —“ That in the opinion of this Council, it is desirable that provision be made in the Gold-fields Regulations of this Province to enable holders of residence area certificates, that have resided five years on such area, if desired, shall become the purchaser, subject to the resumption for mining purposes, but in no instance shall a purchase be sanctioned excepting the present regulations have been complied with, and on the recommendation of the Warden. That a respectful Address be presented to His Honor the Superintendent, requesting that he will cause the above resolution to bo given effect to.” The motion was negatived on the voices. SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES, The following votes were among those passed Tinkers to Bendigo Gully, £6O ; Gibbstown to coal-pits, £SO; Bridge over Molyneux at Roxburgh, £2500 ; Snow poles, Upper Nevis to Gibbstown, £75. GOLD-FIELDS SECRETARY. Mr Reid announced that the office of Goldfields Secretary, for which provision had been made in the Estimates, had been accepted by the member for Kawarau (Mr D. MacKellar). In doing so he stated that he was sure Mr MacKellar’s well-known business habits would recommend his appointment to the favourable consideration of the Council. Monday, June 15.
