MAYORAL ELECTION.
To the Editor of the Cromwell Argus. Sir,—The time has now arrived when the citizens should be looking out for a person to fill the office of Mayor for the ensuing year ; and as no ambitious individual lias had the pluck to come forward and offer his services to the most important town in the Southern Hemisphere,—the Town of Reformation, —t would suggest, ami really I cannot see how we could do better, that we should re-elect our present Mayor, Mr James Dawkius, a gentleman of unassuming maimers, but thoroughly straightforward. "It might be argued lie is not bright ; but if so, he carries some ballast, aud his opinions are respected. I admit he is not a flueut speaker, but he is an honest chairman, and would not be biassed by any party. I say, Dawkins for Major ! I am, &c, Ratepayer. May 17, 1874.
