' ' * There was not a full attendance of Committee at: the .customary; monthly rheetihg, held, on Wednesday night.last,; but there being.'more than sufficient to form aquor.um, the business of the evening met with' out little delay, and was brought to acbhclusion with less disputation and at: an earlier hour than usual. The members present were::— Messrs Moore (president),. Snuddy .(vicepresident), Berry (secretary), Hazlett (treasurer), Humphreys, M'Cabe, Menzies, and Crombie... ~;-■.•• ...:. . .<■. ... ■,-.-, r ~..,. ■. A brief discussion took, place on Mr Crombie presenting his account for fifteen shillings, for one day's attendance at Cotirt,'in opposing; the Premier Company for. a'goldmining lease ; but on Mr Hazlett, .moving, "That the account be passed for payment," the motion was earned, having been seconded by Mr Humphreys. ■ '•' r■•"*' ••.'■> It was then proposed; by Mr- Humphreys, and seconded by Mr Crombie :-r-" That a Respectful petition be drawn up and forwarded to the Government, urging upon them the necessity of purchasing the Kawarau Bridge from.the proprietors, and throwing it open for traffic, as the present rate of tolls charged | is burdensome and oppressive, and presses I heavily both directly and indirectly on 1 the : district at large; and th at th e Secretary write ;to the Cromwell Town Counc ; l and Miners' Association, soliciting their co-operation with this Association in the matter."—Carried. A proposition from Mr M'Cabe then: followed, seconded by Mr Crombie r-r-r" That Messrs Moore, Humphreys, and Berry.be appointed to draw lip the petition."—Carried. The evening's proceedings closed with'a notice of an amendatory motion: on Rule 6, by Mr Crombie. "That all. members of ! Committee retire annually, and be eligible i for re-election."— Communicated.
