The wife of a baker at Oeelong made an unsuccessful attempt to drown herself the other day. She deliberately walked into the sea, clad in a blank silk dress, a handsome Paisley shawl, and a fash ionable bonnet. She had been drinking. The expedition, under the leadership of Mr Gosse, despatched by the South Australian Government to explore the unknown region in the centre of Australia, west of the overland telegraph, mace a remarkable discovery 130 miles south, of Lake Amadeus. It consisted of a huge monolith, HOD feet, high, and six or seven utiles in girth at the base. A stream of water, fed by a spring in the centre of the pyraiiid, flows from the rock.
