' ! f'Dmstan Times.) The annual race meeting on tho Alexandra course, which ushered in the New Year, may in all fairness arid justice, he 'considered to have been an unqualified success. From a local point of view, one of our own having carried off the two principal races against a metropolitan crack, it was the ne plus ultra of meetings. The attendance of visitors was fully up to the average of previous years, and one and all apparently enjoyed themselves to their head’s content.' The Stewards were thoroughly'up'to their business, and conse-, quently everything went off “ merrily as a* marwage bell.” ...The booth, under the superintendence of Mr McDonald, of the Criterion hotel, conibined all the requisites for assuaging the thirst of the fever-heated multitude, and -was liberally supported. (King) 3 Don proved himself a good horse, as at the half-mile post, when a great length behind, he pushed up, and passing his opponents, won hands down. District Handicap, of '2O sovs. Two miles. Mr Rivers’s Manx Boy ... (Holt) 1 Mr Ward’s Sir Tatton ' (Hughes) 2 Mr Dagg’s Boomerang ... ... 3 This was a good race, and won by Manx Boy without trouble. Hack Race, of £7 lt)s. Three-quarter mile ■ ' heats. No weight under 10st. Mr Batten’s Bobby Burns 10M r Holt’s Shepherd’s Daughter Oil Mr Wilkins’ Kathleen ... .. 022 This race should have fallen to Bobby Burns, but through a mishap to him in the second heat, whereby he was’distanced.
