THE CROMWELL RACES.

I think some of yonr readers may want a bit of racing news, so, as I have a few spare minutes, I may let them know my opinion on the Handicaps, and they can please themselves whether they follow the advice or no. For the Grand Stand Handicap I expect we will see Tamboiirini and Atlas tight their Tuapeka battle over again, but I trust without the jostling. Malabar and Mabel will, I hear, both start in the Captain’s interest, while the Lakes district will be represented by TaltVail, and Wanaka by Little Hawea. Judging from Tam’s running at the Dunedin meeting. I shall place them thus ;—Tambouring 1 ; Atlas, 2 ; Malabar, 3. Flying Handicap.—The best in this lot are Atlas, Brunette, and Mabel ; but in the face of the J. G. Handicap, I scarcely think Mr f lazlett will start the old horse, but trust to Brunette. Manx Boy, if in condition, could scarcely lose this race, but I bear he is lame and may not run. Pickpocket is a fine colt, and spoken well of by good judges ; bo may make them use both whip and spurs ; but Brunette 1, Mabel 2, is my tip. For the Derby, Bismarck 1, Lady Pembroke 2. Wishing your readers all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year, —I am, Ac., Doncaster.

The inhabitants of I,ho Cromwell district are sometimes puzzled to know which is tho hostini'] chea-est establishment to purchase their supplies of drapery and clothing at. 'I hey should no longer remain in doubt on that score, 1 f they will only pay one visit to W. T.w.n vs’ London House, they will discover for themselves that it is not im'y tho cheapest hut Hie best at which to deal for these articles. Mr Talhovs has ina !earrangements to imp rfc liia slock direct from the Homo markets, and the public can rest assured (hat. everything will he sold by hi'i at an advance only sufficient to repay the original cost, and return a fair percentage on the outlay, Hvc-y article in Mr Talhovs’ establishment is marked in plain figures, from which no abatement is ever nude. A fuller description of the stock will he found in advertisement ia another eolui.ua.—[Aiovr. ]
