BANNOCKBURN LIBRARY.

To the Editor of the. Cromwell Argus. Sib, — In your issue of November 4, I had the satisfaction of reading a letter signed. “ Nemo,” and while heartily concurring with his views, I wish to make a few remarks in connection with the matter. Some months ago, a unanimous resolution was passed at a public meeting, to the effect that the Library should be removed to the Schoolhouse ; a secretary was also appointed, to communicate with the Library Committee ; and several persons signed a list pledging themselves to become subscribers when the removal should be accomplished. On these representations, the secretary called a meeting of subscribers through your paper, when, strange to say, so few came forward to back up their opinions, that the meeting had to be adjourned. Whether “Nemo” was present as a subscriber he knows best himself. The Mining Association has no control over the opinions of the Library subscribers, and I cannot approve of the suggestion that it should interfere in the matter; that body should not be made a safety-valve for private grievances. One thing more I may add. If “Nemo” will attend a meeting of the Association Committee, at the same time being a subscriber to the Library, and show us some legitimate reasons for the action he desires, I have no doubt his views will meet with fair consideration. —I am, &c., Ome of the Committee. Bannockburn, 15/11/73.
