[FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] ■* DUNEDIN. Tuesday, 9 a.m. Mr Macandrew is to address his Port Chalmers constituents in a few days. Telegrams have passed between the Dunedln Chamber of Commerce and the General Government, from width it appears it is not probable any arrangements can be made for the conveyance of next month's outgoing Suez mail ; and mails will have to be sent t > Melbourne as opportunity offers. Government is trying to aarange for regular service with M'Meckan, Blackwood, and Co. Great excitement seems to prevail in Auckland and other Northern Provinces, owing to the shooting of one Sullivan by the Maoris near Cambridge. At the inquest on Sullivan's body, evidence showed that there were marks of feet on the body made by a Maori who stood on it while tearing the viscera. A verdict of wilful and brutal murder was returned against Piri te Poutairau and threj other natives unknown. The Armed Constabulary is ordered to the front, and every effort is to be made to catch the murderers. The Daily Southern Cross has been purchased by a Limited Liability Co. Mr Vogel gets L.4000 for the plant and goodwill.
