The Colonial prize-firing matches commence at Nelson to-day. - The Governor has accepted the resigna* ! tions of Mr Waterhouse and Mr Hall, and a Gazette has been issued appointing Mr Fox Pre inii r and Co'oiirl Secretly, and reappointing the other Ministers. Mr Waterhdtiso wrote to Mr Vngel a month since intimating that he intended to resign. In the letter he stated that from the time of his joining the Ministry he felt himself in a position : he felt that Vogel regarded himself as actual Premier, and him (VV atorhouse) as nominal one ; that points of difference b hveen t- em prevented them working together satisfactorily ; that Vogel was anxious for the introduction of fresh measures of policy, while his (Watu'house's) opinion was that they should confine theirselves to administration. Then Hail's resignation had increased the difficulty. Sir Waterhouse had no want of respect for Mr Vogel's talents, but the two were cp.st in different mould.!, and could not with mutual satisfaction run together in harness.
