THE NEW COURT-HOUSE.
A brief description of the interior of this building as it will appear when finished may I be deemed of some interest. The Court-room I is 33 x 17, inside measurement. The enclosed ' space allotted to "the Bench" will be 12ft. by oft., on a raised floor, with two steps and a door at each end. This space will be divided from the body of the Court by a partition 4ft. high, constructed of red pine, tongued, grooved, and beaded, with 3x2 oval and sunk capping. A "continuous desk," 2ft. oin. wide, containing four drawers, and covered with blue cloth, will extend the full I length of the "Bench." Four spring-seated and padded arm-chairs will be provided for the magistrates. The raised floor and steps leading to the Bench will be covered with cocoa matting ; and the floors of the Court- j room and adjoining offices will be laid with ' the same material. In front of the Bench '■ will be placed the counsel's table, dimensions Bx4, with blue cloth top and six drawers. " Counsel" are to be accommodated with four Queen's pattern cane-seated chairs. For the convenience of the public there will be eight forms, each 6ft. long, without backs. The "bar" is to be 3ft. high, with 3x2 standards, let into the floor, or secured with iron angle pieces. It will consist of two rails, ! with brackets next each standard, a small J gate in the centre, and two ornamental panels lon each side of the gate. The witness-box and prisoners' dock will be made to match the "Bench" enclosure, and the floor of each will be raised nine inches above the floor of the Court. The dock will measure 5x 3, and tiie witness-box 3x3. An American stove j is to placed in the Court-room as may be directed by the Resident Magistrate. The Magistrates' room and Receiver's room (12 j x 9) will each be provided with a Frenchpolished table and six cane-seated chairs ; also, register grates in the fire-places ; and all necessary shelving and pigeon-holes. The contract is to include the removal of the old I building, which is to be placed alongside the , new one, and used as a lumber-room. The j date fixed for completion of the work required • is the 10th of March.
