The yield of gold in Victoria for the last quarter of 1872 was 324,000 ounces. George Agustus Sala says that he has proposed the toast " The ladies," in sixteen different languages and in different countries. During a thunderstorm at Hokitika a short time ago, the lightning struck a bird-cage, suspended outside a hotel, and killed throe out of the four canaries it contained. A discovery of extraordinary richness has been made at the Moonta mines in South Australia, consisting of an abundance of malleable copper, and diamond oxide in considerable quantities.
