CROMWELL JOCKEY CLUB-
j The Committee of Management held a | meeting at the Bridge Hotel on Wednesday evening, 11th inst. The members present i were —Mr J. A. Preshaw (president), Messrs J. Marsh., J. Cowan, J. Dawkins, (vice-pre-sident), R, Kidd, J. Wrightson, and C. Colclongh. The minutes of the previous meeting having been read and confirmed, 1 A letter was read from Mr John Wilson, i (of Quartz Reef Point), claiming the amount jof stakes run for in the Selling Race at the Spring Meeting, his mare Nelly having run second to Wexford in the race referred to. j The stakes having been paid to the owner of j Wexford, the letter was ordered to lie on the table. Three accounts were passed for payment, j viz., Canterbury Press Cu., £1 os. 3d. ; Daily \ Times, 9s. ; F. J. Wilson, solicitor, £3 3s. i .[Mr Wilson has since handed the amount of I his account to the President as subscription to the funds of the Club.] A letter was read from the Secretary to the Canterbury Jockey Club in reference to the disqualification of Peeress and William M‘Kay. The Committee resolved—“ That this Club approve of the action taken by the Canterbury Jockey Club in reference to the disqualification of Peeress and W. M‘Kay, and 1 endorse the same.” Nominations received for the Grand Stand Handicap, Fiying Handicap, and Handicap j Hurdle Race, were opened and read. A list I of the nominations will be found in our adver- | tising colmns. The total amount accruing i from the nominations was £3O 15s. The Secretary was instructed to forward to j A. R. B. Thomson (handicapper for the Club) ' a copy of the nominations received, and to I request him to send a list of the weights as i early as possible. Uu the motion of Mr Wrightson, seconded ! by Mr Cnlclough, the President, Vice-Presi-dent, and Messrs Taylor and Pierce, were appointed as a sub-committee to have the race-course put in proper condition. 1 It was proposed by Mr Matthews, seconded by Mr Kidd, and unanimously resolved—• “ That the Club apply to the Government to bring in a Bill during next session of Council, to grant the Cromwell Jockey Club an area of 2d‘j acres for the purposes of a race-course, said area to include the present course ; and i that Mr Bastings, M.F.C., be requested to take charge of the Bill.” The meeting closed with a vote of thanks i to the President.
