OUR FIRE BELL.
To the EJittK <>t the Cromwell A rocs. Sir, —1 am ivi f fond of raking up ancient matters, believing that generally they are best allowed to remain in tlie dim obscurity of the past. l>nt perhaps you will allow me to inquire through your columns regarding the " Fire Bell." A very long time ago, the Town Council hastily sent to Dunedin, per Mr M. FYncr, for such an article. In due time it arrived, hut has never since si en tliclight of day. I'li'ii,, .. and unrung, it has bin in some dark corner • ' Messrs llallcnstein's store, under the wat.-hi'n! eye of our present. Mayor. Perhaps you will 1-e able to inform me as to whether the Council have any intention of erecting it. Some of those who have heard of the article, and that it is kept in durance vile, have suggested that enquiries concerning it are not pleasing ; in fact, some have gone si far as to hint that there is a Tammany "ring" about it.—l am, &c., IjANDLORP
