THE ALABAMA CLAIMS.

[We have been requested to publish the following lines, and as the author is well known to many of our readers, we comply..] Let them talk of an invasion, Startling us with foreign roar : We are still the Sons of Britain, And as brave as days of yore. We give the World our trade and commerce, We glory in a Nation's peace ; But rob us not of wealth or honor, Nor mane the Lion in his fleece. Deride us not, we do not slumber, Nor touch the Lien in his den • We glory in a splendid army : For we have still the best of men. The ancients boasted of their valour, The Roman towers looked very fair ; But we can boast of British Bulwark, For now its powder makes us square. Let them boast of au invasion ! And glory in the stripe and star : The British flag flies always freely, When we let slip the dogs of war. Wealth and honour is our motto : A Napier follows Campbell's rear; And we have still the British soldier, Can follow up the Alma cheer. Think you not that Nelson's sleeping : In memory he will ever last : And we have thousand Nelsons living, Will nail our colours to the mast. Taunt us not we paid a ransom, — Our glory is beyond the grave ; 'For—who could sell a human brother ! Ah ! we gave freedom to the slave. IBe steady then, —a nation's duty : We can, and will do what is right; And they who dare do us injustice, Will feel the power of British might. Duaedin, Oct., 1872. D. Blair.
