WARDEN'S COURT.

Thursday, October 3. (Before E. IT. Came, Esq., Judge and Warden.)\ NO BUSINESS LICENSES. James Lawrence, hotelkeeper, Quartzville, was i charged on tbe information of Sergeant Cassels •with occupying Crown land and carrying on business thereon without having a business license. Defendant pleaded guilty, and was fined £3,—an amount equivalent to the loss the revenue had sustained through his neglect. It j appeared he had been six months without a \ license, and the Warden cautioned him that a repetition of the offence would he followed by the infliction of the fall penalty- £O. The costs amounted to lis. John Jackson, hotelkeeper, Carrickton, pleaded guilty to the same charge ; and having been withoit a license for nearly two months, was fined 30a., together with lis. costs.

George Monson, storekeeper, Carrickton, was charged with the same offence, which he admitted. Having been four months without a license, defendant was fined 505., in addition to lis. costs.

George M'Lachlan, hotelkeeper, Rocky Point, also pleaded guilty to a similar charge. Fined 655., with lis. costs.

Thomas Hazlett, hotelkeeper, Quartzville, for the same offence, was fined 605., together with lis. costs. MACNAB V. LOGAN ANT) OTHERS. This was a formal information laid against Thomas Logan, Brian flebden, and G. W. Goodger for neglecting to renew certificates for certain water-races held b" them Mr Logan admitted the offence, stating that the matter had been overlooked. His Worship remarked that the defendants had displayed very great carelessness, but as the rights of no other persons had been interfered with through their negligence, he would allow renewals of the licenses, and inflict a fine cf 20s. and costs in lieu of forfeiture.

Tail Races.— John Gray and another, Dnmmond's Creek, Nevis : granted.—James Dilon and two others, Dillon's Gully : granted.—Dmiel Moore, Adams's Gully : no appearance.— R»bert Forsyth, Adams's Gully : granted.—Ah Sum and two others, Pipeclay Gully: granted—A. Cook and another, Nevis : granted.— Jaires Ait- J chison and another, Adams's Gully : ohections lodged by John Clode, and hearing adjourned for a week.

Water Races. —Daniel Moore, two sluce-heads from Adams's Gully : objected to by \itchison and others, and the applicant not appeuing, aplication refused.—Robert Forsyth, tvo sluiceheads from.Adams's Gully : refused.-Ah Sum and two others, one sluice-head from Pipeclay j Gully : refused. —A. Cook and another, four | sluice-heads from Drammond's Creek, Sevis : | granted.
