CROMWELL TOWN COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of Council was held! the Town-hall on Monday evening, 3rd install Present—His Worship the Mayor, Councjw Marsh, Dawkins, Brown, and Fraer (acting Tow Clerk). The following is a copy of the letter referred which is dated Dunedin, 23th May, and adessed to the Mayor and Council : «Gentlemen,— l duly received your petition lative to certain reserves in your township, d find that Block IX, having been reserved for e purpose of Recreation, cannot be applied for e purpose of revenue. A Bill will have to be jsed through the Assembly, vesting the land the Superintendent for the purpose of Mucipal reserves for the town of Cromwell. You ve other reserves granted, I have found out ' enquiring at the Crown Lands office ; these ants are not issue! yet, or I would have brought a Bill vesting them in the Council. I have en the Provincial Solicitor in reference to the after, and my advice to you is this : —Get a titinn up at once, and forward the same to his onor the Superintendent, praying that Block f nny be withdrawn as a reserve for the purge of recreation, and be set aside as a municiilreserve ; also that the Crown Grants miv be sued for all reserves in >our township. Then e matter will be referred to the Provincial ilicitor, who promises me to attend to the matr, Do this at once. The Government have s0 promised, during the recess, to endeavour provide for some commonage for your district, gave the matter my support, and t trust it will it end in promises, "lam, Gentlemen, yours &c, " Horace Bastings." Accounts were passed for payment as follows : .J. Hurley £3 ; repairing race and cleaning reet, £3 12s. 6d. ; Mr Taylor's expenses in inflection with the Mayoral Conference, £l6 ; , Binge, for coal, £2 ss. On the motion of Cr. Fraer, seconded by Cr. rovvn, it was resolved, —" That the sum of £5 e voted for the services of Constable Walsh as isoector of Nuisances, and that Sub-Inspector bore be requested to sanction the appointlent." Cr. Marsh proposed,—" That the permanent ivels of the streets be taken : the Public Works !o nmittee to report at next meeting as to the robitble cost." —Seconded by Cr. Fraer, and arried. It was also proposed by Cr. Marsh, seconded yCr. Hawkins, and agreed to, —"That a melorial be forwarded to the Superintendent, urgi'that the Government should at once order ecossiry improvements to be made in the 'olice Camp buildings at Cromwell."
