PoMUE r. E. Thompson. -The defendant, a hotelkceper residing at the Nevis, was charged, on the information of Serjeant Cassels, with keeping a billiard-tab'e on his premises without being duly licensed so to do.—The defendant stated that he had for the laso three yeirs been in the habit of sending the amount of the licensefee to the Treasury in Dunedin. He hid remitted the money for the current year several months ago, but had not yet receive I the renewal of his license in return.—-The Magistrate said it was necessary for the holders of billiardlicenses to make application to the Bench for renewals : that was the proper and only course to adopt.
G. T. Stephenson v. P>axk of New Sooth jWai.es. —Claim, £SO, for alleged wrongful disi missal.—Mr Brough, who appeared for the I»mik. stated that the plaintiff had been served with notice that a portion o- the evidence was to be heard by the Dunedin Bench. He therefore asked for a further adjournment, as without the ! evidence referred to, the case could not be proceeded with.— The plaintiff submitted that the Bank had already had three weeks' notice, and it was a hardship upon him to have so much delay in the matter. The Magistrate adjourned j the hearing for seven days, and declined to allow : plaintiff his expenses for the day. | John Pkbriam v. Peter M'Kay.—This case i was adjourned, at plaintiffs request, till next I Court-day. TH'.IMAS HORTUGAN V. JoSRPH HOLLTDAY. - ' The affidavit of service of summons in this case J not having been returned from Dunedin, the / hearing was ordered to stand over for a week, i Billiard Ltcen.se.—The application of Thos. I Hazlett, (Jarrick Range Hotel, was granted. ! The applicant wished to obtain a half-yearly lij cense, but the Magistrate said he could only I grant a billiard-license for the year.
